Space Shuttle Mission 2007
September 04 , 2014Really bad news!Dear customers! There's with great sorrow we have to announce that our co-founder, administrator, marketing director and, not to say the least, great friend Alexander Lorinczi has past away. He lost the several years long fight against a brain tumor. Our thoughts and condolences goes to his wife and two children. Hopefully this ends all speculations that has been going on in the forums. It was he's personal request to not make it public, and we hoped to the end that he could win the uneven battle. For that reason this page has not been updated for a long, long time. There has been more important things to take care of, as we hope you understand. Finally some important notes: -The reactivation of licenses has, and will always work as usual. Mail to support [at] space-shuttle-mission.com. -Users that have applied for forum membership and didnt get any mail in return MUST re-apply. -The development of SpaceShuttleMissionSimulator 2 will continue. It has never stopped acually. It was what Alex had wanted. Dont ask when it will be finished, since its a complete overhaul of the graphics system. But we can reveal as much as a new ISS model is 95% finished and a new model for the space-shuttle is 100% finished. And its NOT the space shuttle thats is shown in the SSMS2 video preview. More news to come soon.
Space Shuttle Mission 2007 is a Space Shuttle stand-alone mission simulator for Microsoft Windows. The simulator was released on January 1, 2008 after having been under development for more than six years.
The main purpose of Space Shuttle Mission 2007 is to allow the gamer to experience real historical NASA Space Shuttle missions from liftoff (T-00:01:50:00) to landing. Initially, Space Shuttle Mission 2007 was released with a set of 11 missions but as time passed, the development team has been releasing new missions as free add-ons. The missions include satellite deployment and servicing (including the Hubble Space Telescope), building and servicing the International Space Station, extra-vehicular activities and landing at Kennedy Space Center and Edwards Air Force Base.[citation needed]
The Space Shuttle Mission 2007 simulates Space Shuttle systems, including the general-purpose computer, remote manipulator system, auxiliary power unit, hydraulic, CCTV, electrical, propulsion, navigation, APDS (docking system), communications, and payload bay. These are intended to allow for a realistic interaction between the user and these systems throughout the mission. As the mission evolves, the simulator presents the user with an on-screen context-related checklist, indicating which systems to operate and how. In the easiest difficulty mode, the simulator indicates individual switches with flashing arrows, in addition to the checklists. In more advanced difficulty modes, the user is expected to use printed checklists to complete the mission.[citation needed]
NASA'sfirst shuttle flight of 2007--STS-117 aboard Atlantis--is expected to carry newfuel tank modifications when it launches no earlier than March 16 on a missionto deliver new solar arrays and truss segments to the International SpaceStation (ISS).
The shuttleEndeavour will follow no earlier than June 28, on NASA's STS-118 mission, toadd another truss segment and a spare parts storage platform to the ISS. Those missionspave the way for the planned Sept. 7 launch of Atlantis' STS-120 mission to install a U.S.-built hub [image]that will link future laboratories to the ISS.
The threeshuttle missions were originally slated to launch on Feb. 22, June 11 and Aug.9, respectively, but were pushed back to accommodate shuttle processing needs,as well as plans for upcoming ISS astronautspacewalks, crew rotations and automated cargo shipments.
The Dawn spacecraft is going to use an ion propulsion system to visit and orbit the asteroids Vesta and Ceres. In March 2006 NASA cancelled and then re-instated the mission but as a result, launch was originally put back to July 2007, then rescheduled for late 2006 before ending up back in July 2007. Various factors then resulted in the launch being pushed back until September. Lift off was from launchpad SLC-17B but the launch was delayed by one day.
A comprehensive analysis of both the molecular genetic and phenotypic responses of any organism to the space flight environment has never been accomplished because of significant technological and logistical hurdles. Moreover, the effects of space flight on microbial pathogenicity and associated infectious disease risks have not been studied. The bacterial pathogen Salmonella typhimurium was grown aboard Space Shuttle mission STS-115 and compared with identical ground control cultures. Global microarray and proteomic analyses revealed that 167 transcripts and 73 proteins changed expression with the conserved RNA-binding protein Hfq identified as a likely global regulator involved in the response to this environment. Hfq involvement was confirmed with a ground-based microgravity culture model. Space flight samples exhibited enhanced virulence in a murine infection model and extracellular matrix accumulation consistent with a biofilm. Strategies to target Hfq and related regulators could potentially decrease infectious disease risks during space flight missions and provide novel therapeutic options on Earth.
During the simulation, I completed the tasks by working with the other participating astronauts who had assumed the roles of ISS crew members and space shuttle crew members, which also included astronaut Yamazaki, as well as with the flight controllers on the ground. It was important to conduct the operations safely and securely while effectively communicating with the other participants. Our training definitely focused on that point. I hope to have an opportunity to operate the Canadarm2 while on board the ISS in the near future.
Mrs. Bush Congratulates Barbara Morgan, Astronaut on Space Shuttle Endeavour and Former Teacher Photos This morning, Mrs. Laura Bush called Barbara Morgan, an astronaut andformer teacher who will travel to space for the first time on the flightof the Space Shuttle Endeavour to the International Space Station.Mrs. Bush expressed congratulations from one schoolteacher to anotherand noted that she and the President appreciate Ms. Morgan's commitmentto America's space program, to teaching, and to students. Mrs. Bushconcluded the call noting that Americans-and lots of excited teachersand students-will be watching the mission with a lot of pride.Ms. Morgan served as the "Teacher in Space" alternate to ChristaMcAuliffe for the 1986 Space Shuttle Challenger mission. Following theChallenger tragedy, Morgan continued her ties with NASA and eventuallyleft her job as an elementary school teacher in Idaho to become afull-time astronaut in 1998.The Space Shuttle Endeavour is scheduled to launch August 8, 2007.# # #
The Space Shuttle Program eventually flew 135 missions, making it the core of American crewed spaceflight efforts for nearly four decades. The first orbital test flight, STS-1, carried out by Space Shuttle Columbia, blasted off April 12, 1981 from historic launchpad 39A at Kennedy Space Center. More than 30 years later, when Space Shuttle Atlantis rolled to a stop on the runway July 21, 2011, the shuttle program officially came to a close.
On May 30, 2020, NASA astronauts Doug Hurley and Robert Behnken launched to the International Space Station (ISS) aboard a SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft, marking the first crewed spaceflight launched from American soil since NASA retired the Space Shuttle. And in just a few short days (on November 14), NASA plans to launch the first official mission, Crew-1, of their Commercial Crew Program.
All these potential benefits of the shuttle were piled on top of one key promise: rapid turnaround of the spacecraft between flights. Some NASA personnel even anticipated that a shuttle would be able to carry out back-to-back flights within just a week or two.
In 2004, President Bush gave a speech that outlined the end of the shuttle era, without clearly identifying what would come next (or how much it would cost). This decision left NASA in limbo, as they were suddenly dependent on the Russians for access to space.
The remaining three space shuttles, Discovery, Endeavour, and Atlantis, are now museum pieces, as is the test orbiter Enterprise. Having seen some of these vessels in person, I can attest that they still are breathtaking sights to behold.
During last month's debate on the FY 2007 Science, State, Justice and Commerce Appropriations bill, House Members had two opportunities to shift NASA funding. Rep. Barney Frank (D-MA) offered an amendment to prohibit funding to be used for a manned mission to Mars. That amendment was rejected: 145 yes to 274 no votes. Later, Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-NY) offered an amendment to take $477 million in the bill for exploration systems in the Science, Aeronautics and Exploration account and shift it to a community-based policing program. This amendment was defeated 185-236.
REP. TOM FEENEY (R-FL): "The Weiner amendment would take $477 million from NASA's space exploration budget, essentially would cripple the CEV-CLV program. // Ladies and gentlemen, just so you know what that means, we are scheduled to fly our last shuttle mission in the year 2010. We have a bird on the pad. We hope we get it up July 1 or sometime soon. But we will be down for sure by 2010. We will have no manned space flight program after that unless we continue with the CEV development. This amendment basically wipes out that development in this budget cycle. // I will tell you we need a next generation of vehicles or we will not be in the human space flight business. The Weiner amendment raids the account that is necessary to keep the workforce in place. // If you allow the workforce to disappear from 2010 to, say, 2015 or 2020, you can never replace these people. The expertise that you lose cannot be put back together again. Once Humpty Dumpty and the skilled workforce is dead and depleted, you can never put it back together." 2ff7e9595c
